Martin Scorsese has made a masterpiece of this story of greed, treachery and betrayal. Unlike many of his other movies, this one is not overlong or bloated. Despite the bleak tone of the movie, it is gripping from beginning to end. Sharon Stone and Joe Pesci give outstanding performances as the two main characters, and the supporting cast is equally impressive.
