It is a fast-paced game with the object of winning the pot, which is the sum total of all bets placed in any one hand. Most games are played with a standard deck of 52 cards, though some variants use multiple packs or add wild cards (dueces or one-eyed jacks).<\/p>\n<p>Players place bets in a circle around the table. When betting comes around to you, you may fold your hand or call the latest raise. You can also check, which means you will pass on your turn to act and wait until it comes back around again.<\/p>\n<p>The first betting round is called the flop. There are three community cards dealt face up in the center of the table that every player can use to make their best hand. Then the second betting round is called the Turn, and another community card is revealed. At this point the highest ranked poker hand wins the pot.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to win at poker, it is important to learn to read your opponents. This is achieved by classifying your opponents into loose or tight, and exploiting their tendencies. This can be done off the felt by studying their behavior, and on-the-felt by reading poker books and applying them to your own style of play.
